A Plot With a View

This has to be one of the most scenic cemeteries I've ever been to!  What a view.  I can imagine it's a good spot for contemplation.

I've been borrowing coats from my Baby's wardrobe again.  This one is super soft and cosy, but quite tailored.

A Plot with a View

I know some people may find it quite macabre, but I quite enjoy having a stroll around a cemetery.  In this country we have some amazing Victorian ones in cities with grand gates, obelisks and buildings.  Out in the country, in smaller communities, you can get a sense of the history of a place by looking at the stones.  A quick scan across the headstones and I now know more about mayors, Lords and politicians from the area.  One thing I'd never seen before was people's addresses on their headstones, which I thought was really odd, until my other half pointed out that in these kind of communities, people often spend their entire lives in the same house.  Still, not a tradition I'd ever come across before, had you?

  1. I, too, enjoy walking through cemeteries. It's calm and the headstones can be quite beautiful. I find myself wondering about the people and make up stories in my head.
Bright pink is really lovely on you!

  2. The address thing is really interesting, I've never heard of that before either! And I'm right there with you, I love strolling through a cemetery. They can be so beautiful, and it's a great way to get a sense of history and to contemplate mortality a little bit.
Lovely scenery. All these posts you do really make me want to visit Wales sometime.

    1. Glad that I didn't come across as too morbid! And yes you should come to Wales - in fact we should organise some Canada-UK summit of bloggers!! How amazing would that be? If only we could get funding to cover flights.. X

    2. Oops, I meant North America!! I keep forgetting who is in the US and who is in Canada so I meant to say North America to cover everyone!

  3. That really is a strikingly beautiful cemetery. I've enjoyed visiting cemeteries (assuming I'm not there because someone I know has passed - I mean as a tourist). In many cases, they're amongst the oldest places in a given location (at least here in relatively young Canada) and there's always a history lesson to be gleaned from reading the inscriptions on the headstones.

    1. They really can be quite historical places - here in the UK some cemeteries and church yards have very old trees, and there's usually a resting place of someone fairly famous or distinguished to learn the back story of. X

  4. Hmm, the last time I was in a cemetery was 3 years ago when my father-in-law passed on.. not a good experience, filled with sadness...

    1. Sorry for your loss Mrs C - I think as Jessica has said above, obviously there's a difference between visiting as a 'tourist' and visiting for necessity. X

  5. Addresses?? I've never come across that either and I've found myself reading many a grave around the UK... I know it can be gloomy but cemeteries really are very calm and often picturesque places - although I think you've found a really stunning one here. Beautiful Wales! xx

    1. I think the calmness is one of the major draws for me. You'll have to keep an eye out for addresses next time you're in a cemetery! Would be interesting to know if it's just a local thing x

  9. I have never been a fan of cemeteries because it always reminds you of loved ones you've lost. I can see how it can be calm place to think since there's not a lot going on. Interesting to read tombstone and learn about the past. This cemetery seems to be very calming and beautiful and does make a great background. I love the use of color tights in this outfit.
